Green Needham has introduced the idea of Needham's becoming a Massachusetts Green Community through informal discussions. At the end of July, 2009, Michael Greis presented the idea at public meetings with two boards that would have key roles in any Green Communities submission by the Town of Needham - the Board of Selectmen, as the Town's Executive Authority, and the Planning Board.

Because qualifying as a Massachusetts Green Community is undertaken by the municipality itself, Green Needham and its members can most effectively advance that goal through work in three broad areas:

  • Advocating the value of becoming a Green Community with key Town Boards and officials
  • Building support within the community
  • Assisting, where appropriate and feasible, with the process of meeting the qualifications
