In 2006 First Parish undertook a major capital campaign to fund a renovation of Parish Hall, the basement area, and the office wing. The renovations, completed in 2008, increased the size of Parish Hall by 25% yet reduced the building’s carbon footprint by 36%. Additionally, water usage has dropped by 40%. This was accomplished through installation of dual-flush toilets, low flush urinals, and low flow sink aerators. Landscape watering was done only during the first year of seeding, post construction. The church does not have an irrigation system and only selected areas, such as the memorial garden, are watered. Lawn care is organic, using only natural amendments such as compost.
