Greenfield

3/31/09 - Becca King in Greenfield called me after seeing our web site. Her group, Greening Greenfield, is putting together a 10% Challenge in Greenfield. They saw everything we had been doing and wanted to share information.

The municipality is on board and has done an energy audit (through ICLE). The schools are not really engaged at this point - they are under severe financial stress, so they've not gained much traction, though the Superintendent is interesting.

Their core leadership group is 7-8 people, they have around 50 members and several hundred on mailing lists. We talked about the challenge of getting people involved.

Cambridge

10/15/09 - Josh Hassol has left CEA; they are seeking a new Executive Director. I believe they are facing some challenges in funding the ongoing rollout of their ambitious efforts.

8/27/08 - Cambridge

Contact: Joshua Hassol
  • This is a city-sponsored non-profit that is developing and rolling out a city-wide campaign to reduce energy use by residents and businesses. A large-scale effort that has secured local foundation funding to enable their start-up.
I have talked with Josh Hassel, their new President. They are just rolling out initial programs after a year's start-up planning. CEA may have some models and will soon have some experience that could be directly applied to some of our efforts - Michael 15:55, 27 August 2008 (EDT)

Bolton

  • The Town of Bolton (n. of Worcester) has a town-created committee working on sustainability.
This group came to my attention because one of its members organized a meeting to present information on using Geothermal for heating & cooling in building projects -

Winchester - Winchester Energy Management Committee

  • Current focus - building champion program in which energy billing data and energy budget information is to be used to make building owners aware of their usage, give them a tool to track their usage and possibly provide an incentive to the building owners (NB - Something I'd like to see in Needham Michael)
  • Other areas - looking at building maintenance, building operations policies, rental policies, new building construction plans, energy billing issues and other conservation efforts
