Organizations Participating in the 10% Energy Challenge

As of 4-13-09

  • First Parish Unitarian Universalist: 55 submissions, 402,000 pound reduction in CO2 emissions (Needs 60 for gold)
  • Kalmia Garden Club: 6 submissions, 32,700 pound reduction in CO2 emissions
  • Needham Community Farm Board of Directors: 8 submissions (100% of Board), 58,166 pound reduction in CO2 emissions HAS EARNED GOLD LEVEL RECOGNITION
  • Needham Congregational Church: 26 submissions, 147,645 pound reduction in CO2 emissions (Needs 60 for gold)
  • Needham Health Department: 5 submissions (100% of staff), 72,455 pound reduction in CO2 emissions HAS EARNED GOLD LEVEL RECOGNITION
  • Needham League of Women Voters: 40 submissions, 235,535 pound reduction in CO2 emissions HAS EARNED GOLD LEVEL RECOGNITION
  • Needham Science Center: 4 submissions (100% of staff), 33,650 pound reduction in CO2 emissions HAS EARNED GOLD LEVEL RECOGNITION
  • Number One Book Club: 4 submissions, 15,925 pound reduction in CO2 emissions
  • Wellesley Friends Meeting: 17 submissions, 131,800 pound reduction in CO2 emissions


Recognition Level Guidelines

  • Small organizations (1-20 people): 50%, 70%, 80% for bronze, silver, gold
  • Medium organizations (21-100 people): 20%, 30%, 40% for bronze, silver, gold
  • Large organizations (over 100 people): 10%, 20%, 30% for bronze, silver, gold

Ideas for possible follow-up

One approach is to develop information targeted to specific areas in the challenge, then send those to people who've selected those areas as helpful reminders and follow-up.. Doing that might include:

  • Analyzing the data to identify the areas to focus on first
  • Researching suggestions for getting savings in those areas
  • Identifying and soliciting ideas from 10% Challenge participants and Green Needham members on how they achieved savings
  • Deciding how best and how often to communicate with people

Another area is tracking overall participation and success, then publicizing it. We need to create a place on the web page for this. A related area is tracking group participation and success.
