Videography for "Your World"

Green Needham's cable program Your World debuted on the Needham Channel on October 13th. Host Allison Hume is aiming to produce a new show every several months.

The show features on location videos, so if you like videography, this is a great opportunity. The Needham Channel will provide additional training as needed on the equipment and video techniques.

Video Editing for "Your World"

Green Needham's cable program Your World debuted on the Needham Channel on October 13th. Host Allison Hume is aiming to produce a new show every several months.

Producing each episode involves editing video material, creating and then assembling multiple segments into a completed program. The Needham Channel's studio features state-of-the-art real-time video editing with Final Cut Pro. The Needham Channel will provide training and coaching on its equipment and on video editing.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with some video editing experience who wants to move to the next level. Someone with limited exposure to video editing who is motivated could take advantage of this opportunity as well if he or she is enthusiastic to learn and is willing to invest the time.

Energy Workshop for Needham Houses of Worship

  • Workshop was held May 3, 2009

Green Needham is working with the Needham Clergy Association to hold an energy workshop for all Needham Houses of Worship. This 2 - 2 1/2 hour workshop will focus on how Needham's houses of worship can reduce energy use in their facilities, saving money that can be better directed to their faith-based missions as well as becoming leaders in stewardship of our natural resources.

The workshop will feature Thomas Nutt-Powell, Director of Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light. Mass IP&L is one member of a nationwide-network of organizations helping houses of worship be more sustainable. We're also planning a panel of our own Needham organizations that are already leading the way. Finally, we hope to encourage some of the congregations to take on the 10% Challenge.

We need help reaching out to Needham's Houses of Worship to get representation from every Needham House of Worship, as well as assistance finalizing the plan and carrying out the meeting,.

If you are interested in helping, or want more information, please contact Michael Greis or Eleanor Rosellini. More information is available on our project page.

Sustainable Business Leaders

  • The SBL program went through a transition in leadership and it was unclear whether we could still pursue this opportunity. It is still a possibility for the future.

The Sustainable Business Leader program was created to help small and medium-size businesses become more environmentally sustainable. For a nominal one-time fee, businesses receive technical assistance in a six-step process:

  1. An introduction to the Sustainable Business Leader Program and an overview of the Sustainability Assessment Form (SAF)
  2. A site visit to the participating company to review the SAF it has completed
  3. Help to create an Action Plan based on our recommendations and priorities the business selects from the SAF
  4. Implementation and guidance to services and vendors
  5. Ongoing assistance to measure progress
  6. Program evaluation with a final report

27 Boston businesses are now participating. We have an opportunity to make this program available to Needham and Newton businesses through our work on the Environment Committee of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.

A Green Needham volunteer would work with the Chamber and other volunteers from the Environment Committee to promote the program in our community and gain commitment from 8-10 businesses to participate. Once that number is reached, the SBLP will run the program.

If you are interested in working on this project - or participating as a business - please contact Michael Greis.

Constant Contact Newsletter

  • Lynn Klatt is coordinating the Newsletter

We started a Constant Contact e-mail newsletter in September. Our goal is to create and send out a newsletter once a month or so.

  • I'm looking for help putting the newsletter together. That could involve any or all of the following:
  • Identifying with topics/news and either writing a short article or getting someone involved in it to write it
  • Getting pictures (as needed)
  • Using Constant Contact (on the web) to put together and send the newsletter (one page)

Either over time or now, I would like to turn over the newsletter completely to someone, but I promise that if you sign up just to help, you aren't committing to take it.
